Introduction Our purposes in this article are twofold. As scholarly activity, we report on an investigative study for a readership of language teachers and language-teaching researchers, and relate our account to issues in professional literature. At the same time, our investigation is a form of professional action and a step toward a program for further action in our workplace. This dual agenda is fundamental to our research and is prominent in the article. It also poses an interesting dilemma for the status of our activity, which we take up in a postscript on research, action, and ethics.
